What we did last year....
The 2007 conference was such a huge success, that people were asking to sign up for next year before it was even over. If you missed it, here's a taste of what we did.
Margaret Stove was the keynote speaker, as well as a workshop teacher and round table moderator. She blew our socks off with her friendly and generous personality and the stores of knowledge that she has at her fingertips.
Nancy Bush taught several workshops on Estonian Lace knitting techniques, and made us all jealous for her collection of Estonian knitting. She's been studying these techniques for years and is now working on a book about Estonian Knitting.
Donna Druchunas taught a 9-hour workshop on designing your own lace based on the stitches and techniques used by the Native Alaskan knitters in the Oomingmak Co-operative. She also discussed her experiences traveling in Alaska for research.
Joan Schrouder taught several short workshops on shaping shawls: circular, triangular, and square/rectangular. Her technical expertise cannot be surpassed, and her teaching style is both relaxed and thorough. No wonder her classes are so much in demand all over the United States!
Galina Khmeleva taught unique workshops featuring the techniques of the lace knitters in Orenburg Russia. Coming from Russia herself, Galina has an insider's view of the culture of the region, and is generous in sharing her knowledge with other knitters and spinners. She also has a huge collection of Russian lace shawls that made us all drool.
